Writing for ezines
can be fun and rewarding, not only in monitory terms but also in
the satisfaction that your work will be read by many thousands of
regular subscribers.
Usually email
based magazines, ezines are normally sent to subscribers only, but
they can often be viewed on-line and, sometimes, they are produced
in print.
Commonly known
as ezines you may also come across zines, webzines, e magazines,
and fanzines. But rest assured they are all ezines, and are a worldwide
market available for you to write for.
Payment can range
from as little as a few pence per word to several hundreds of pounds
for a business ezine. You may come across ezines that give payment
by way of a free subscription and some that don't pay at all other
than giving your name a mention.
Ezines are produced
by a diverse amount of organizations all over the globe; they include
businesses, literary societies, poetry magazines, stamp collection
clubs, music fan clubs. The list is endless. Whatever your interest,
you are almost certain to find at least one ezine to suit you. Writing for an
ezine is not too much different to regular magazine work. You need
to study the market and ensure you're submitting copy to the right
organization; it's pointless sending that excellent piece of work
on 'The Wild Flowers of Everest' to an ezine for Play Station gamers. |

Check the submission
guidelines for the ezine, these are usually available on the associated
website, if not, an email to the editor will usually result in all
the information you require.
Have a look at
the ezine's web site; note the style, content, genre, and material
covered already. Subscribing to the ezine is very often free, so
go ahead and do that to glean the same information.
If you're writing
for a non-fiction market you should be as brief as possible. Internet
users tend to scan information. Have a title and first line that
will grab the reader's attention, use bullet points to get across
key information, keep sentences short and to the point. Fiction
markets depend on the ezine's style and word length.
When you're ready
to submit an article or story, read the guidelines again to make
sure you're within the required word count, that you're using the
correct format, and you're submitting it to the write person. You
probably get the picture; you don't want to be rejected on a technicality.
